The company
Scotia Handling Services is a UK-based provider of lifting, rigging, and height safety inspection services. Their engineers certify equipment for industrial customers across the UK and further afield.
Scotia has run inspections on Core since 2021, with the rollout including a full migration of historical certification for more than 300 customers — coordinated across time zones with the Core team.
Before Core
“Previously paper copies would be posted out and often copies would be needed urgently when some inevitably got lost.” — in their words
Engineers completed inspection certificates by hand in the field. Each paper report was then re-typed by someone in the office, checked by a second person, and finally authorised — three sets of hands on every certificate, with human error possible at each step. Finished certificates went out by post, urgent re-issues were routine when originals went missing, and customers couldn't see their equipment or certification without ringing the office during working hours.
What runs on Core
Scotia rolled out Core in 2021, migrating historical certification for over 300 customers in roughly three months — coordinated between their team and Core's:
- Engineers complete certification reports directly in the Core mobile app, in real time on site
- Automation removes the re-typing step and many of the manual error sources that came with paper
- Customers access their equipment and certification 24/7 from anywhere in the world
- Centralised digital records eliminate posting paper certificates and chasing lost copies
- Office team time previously lost to admin is now reinvested in customer relationships and tendering work
The results
Reports that took days now reach customers within a day. Admin time is down roughly 20%, and the office hours saved have been reinvested in customer relationships and tendering. Customers got the 24/7 oversight of their equipment and legal requirements they had been asking for — no more waiting on the post or phoning the office.
“Core has modernised our business and given our customers the oversight of their legal requirements that they were looking for.”
